We managed to interact with a local farmer at JKUAT,Juja and collected data on the various breeds of seedlings that they plant and the challenges that they encounter during the season of planting and harvesting and generally as a farmer
.
The farmer informed us that even though they carry out farming, they majorly plant Chinese products which enables them to fight hunger and sustain themselves as farmers.
Key advantages that they face include:high quality and quantity production, use of technology like ploughs ,harvesting machine and planting machines that saves time and labour as well as earning income by selling their products to local markets.
They also face major challenges which include:Insecurity where outsiders intrude into the stores and destroy the products, pests like cutworms, armyworms and aphids reduce the quantity and quality of products resulting in reduced output leading to losses and lower incomes. They also face financial constraints resulting in inefficiency in planning and implementation.
