Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

GPO focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Here are some ways on how GPO will advocate for the achievement of sustainable cities and communities;

  1. Emphasizing the need for sustainable urban planning and development to create livable, inclusive, and well-connected cities. This includes promoting public transportation systems, affordable housing, and access to basic services for all residents.
  2. Improving the living conditions of slum dwellers by providing access to affordable housing, clean water, sanitation, and basic services ensuring that all people have access to adequate housing, regardless of their income or social status.
  3. Focusing on building resilience in cities and human settlements by reducing the risks and impacts of disasters. This includes implementing measures to mitigate the effects of natural disasters, improving early warning systems, and strengthening infrastructure and building codes.
  4. GPO highlights the importance of creating accessible and inclusive public spaces, such as parks, gardens, and recreational areas. These spaces promote physical and mental wellbeing, social cohesion, and biodiversity within urban areas.
  5. Promoting participatory and inclusive urban planning and management processes. This encourages governments, local authorities, and communities to collaborate, engage citizens, and consider the diverse needs and perspectives of all residents, including marginalized groups.
